|Name:||Recent exploration undertaken by S.EL.A.S. club in the "Dersios" sinkhole at Palaiochora, Arcadia|
Information about the recent explorations at the Dersios Sinkhole on the Paleochora plateau of the Tyros municipality of Arcadia. The sinkhole was explored to -81m by a French team (with assistance from the HSS) in 1974. From 2003 to 2005 SELAS caving club conducted many expeditions involving dives in four of the five sumps discovered in the system. The explored depth was doubled in 2003 and the explored length increased from 600m to more than 1.600m by the end of the 2005 explorations. Many of the sumps were emptied using the simple siphon technique to allow further exploration. The text of the report was drafted by N.Mitsakis and S.Zacharias for submission to the organisers of the 14th ICS for inclusion in the congress proceedings.
As at 2007, exploration is ongoing and information in Greek may be found through the forum on the website of SELAS. The current explored depth is -164m and the length of the cave has surpassed 1.800m.
